Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jeevan Nagar- Jammu has celebrated Lohri with exuberance and fanfare in its school premises. The entire atmosphere of the school was absorbed in the festive spirit and echoed the melodious vocals of “Sunder Munderiye Ho” and the vivacious singing and dance performances of teachers absorbed and assimilated the feelings of the festival.The whole school was decorated with colourful bunting and other decorative material. Lohri is celebrated in parts of Northern India a night before Makar Sankranti. It is a popular Indian festival that is celebrated to mark the beginning of the harvest season for winter crops. Every year, during the month of Paush, a day before Makar Sankranti – usually on January 13, with much fanfare especially by the people of Punjab, Lohri is celebrated. festival is a time of untainted extravagance. Singing folk songs, dancing to the tunes of dhol, performing bhangra, gidda and chajja, relishing makki ki roti and sarson ka saag and munching gajak, moongfali, tilkut, puffed rice, revdi, popcorn by the bonfire are some of the popular Lohri rituals. The key trait of Lohri is the bonfire. Illuminating the fire has been familiar in winter solstice festivals all through time. To mark the importance of this ritual, school has arranged the bonfire in the ground and celebrated this great festival with the presence of Worthy Principal Sir along with Wings heads, Incharges, teachers, non teaching staff and all other helping staff of the school.. Worthy Principal of the school, Shri Rameshwar Mengi ji distributed the gifts to the helping staff.He also appreciated the cultural item presented by the teachers of different wings. He gave his best wishes to all the staff members and their family member.
